1994 sls Screaching And chirping Belt Noise
My Alternator was changed 3 times. the first time the original one died, the second time it was charging sometimes and sometimes not, and the third one had a wrong pully on from the factory.
My belt was making noise ever since the alternator has been changed. i brought my car to 4 diffrent mechanics and nobody can figure it out. i changed my belt 3 times changed the idler pulley 3 times and i also changed my belt tensioner. i tried belt dressing, i tried wd40, i tried water, i tried greasing all the pulleys. i dont know anymore. When i push on the gas it gets louder and and makes a sound like metal is grinding, almost like a whistling sound, like bad bearings along with the belt noise. when i put water on the belt it stops squeaking for a few secthen starts again. What else can it be?? the only thing i have left to do is either bring it to another mechanic or the dealer to pull apart everything. If anybody knows what can be done for this annoying noise to go away i would really appreciate it.

ORIGINAL: dimitri94seville
They told me it was the power steering that was squeaking
They told me it was the power steering that was squeaking
None of them mechanics had a stethoscope ?
That WILL pin point the noise and stop the R&R parts method.
It is not like there are a lot of things that will make squeak noises that go along with the engine speed ...
belt tensioner pulley, alternator, PS, H2O pump, belt.
Cant put the stethoscope on the belt but surely it can be used on the others.
I have never heard an AC compressor squeak.

I brought the car to another mechanic and they said the same thing it might be the power steering pump thats making the noise. but they are notsure it will go away if they change it. i dont know what to do anymore??? my steering seems to be working fine but if the noise is comming out from there then i guess it needs replacement. Is it hard to replace this p/s pump?? do i need to change pump and p/s rack?? or should i flush and change fluid first to see what happens before anything?? i really need some advice

I am assuming you have a Northstar. Pretty sure the power steering pump on your car is the same one that is in a Bonneville, LeSabre and Olds 88. That is pure BS from the dealer, Cadillac Part = $$$$$$. It is pretty easy to change. It sits right up in view, 2 bolts is all. You have to bleed the system to clear the lines of air after the change but again not too hard.
