Hello all, I have been driving my 1990 Deville for about 10 years now, and lately I have been thinking of upgrading to a newer model. I am in no hurry (mine runs just fine) but I am now having to commute farther to work, so I thought it might be time to start researching a newer ride. I have come across a 2006 DTS Luxury II nearby that seems like a good deal, though I haven't actually looked at it yet.

Anyway, I was just wondering about any potential issues these cars have. I remember hearing about head gasket problems with the northstar engines, but as I recall, they were fixed by the later years. Which years should I steer clear of? Any other things to watch out for? Bear in mind, I am a mechanic (18 wheelers) so i'm not afraid of a little extra maintenance or smaller issues, I just don't want to be constantly worrying about an engine, transmission, etc.
