RE: Starting problem 96 deville
I did the compression Test and here are the results with 5 revolutions of the motor. If thats incorrect let me know, also what should the compression be new? I didnt do a wet test since all the numbers seem pretty close to one anouther and i dont know what it should be at.
Cylinder PSI
1 207
2 210
3 210
4 210
5 210
6 210
7 199
8 205
As to what stealth asked they are duralast coil packs. But the problem was still before i changed them so i feel it was a waste of money but in a way a good all out tune up.
EDIT: i just remembered that when i did the fuel pressure test, with the gauge attached and the psi at 40 psi it still turned over many times before it started. so i know the fuel was there at the time i tried to start it.

RE: Starting problem 96 deville
Ok well i jacked up the car looking for the crank position sensor but im not exactly sure where is it, i remember i read somewhere that its by the oil filter, i think its the one that i cant really see because of the motor mount is in the way. Is that the one i need to find a way to make sure the connectors are good?

I dont know what else to really check any further help would be much appreciated. Since fuel is getting to the fuel rail, is there a way totest the injectors? Or would it be an ignition problem now? Not really sure.

RE: Starting problem 96 deville
As I step back and read all the posts, and your efforts have been admirable. Its possible it is 'Normal'. Carbon build up is possible it would create a lean condition as fuel is absorbed by carbon on intake valves on start up. This can be dealt with chemically with Gm top engine cleaner, a few different products made by BG, other members may have different favorites. WOT afterwords is always the best part. It is possible that computer will require 4 engine revolutions before it can determine fuel/ignition sequence to start. If you have access to a scanner post Fuel Trim values may show something to abnormal but so far I see nothing of concern, and engine apears to be sound although compression is a little high which would indicate carbon build up.

RE: Starting problem 96 deville
The numbers seemed high on the compression since i have a Nissan with a high compression motor(10:1) that the compression is 200, and see this at 210 seemed high, even tho i dont know what the compression ratio is on this motor. What should the compression numbers be? on a brand new northstar? im gonna try that upper engine cleaner. Gonna ask around and see if i know anyone with a scanner. I know one person that has one that only reads codes are there special ones that show fuel trim values?

RE: Starting problem 96 deville
The person you know has either a code reader or a scanner he doesn't know how to use. Code readers are normal inexpensive, scanner vary in cost. I have known more than one tech who did not know how to use a scanner; it was used just to read codes.
