Cadillac CTS -> Drive Belt
Hi,
I'm from Germany and i want to buy a preowned 2004 Cadillac CTS with the 3.2 V6 218hp engine.
The car has around 100.000 Miles on it.
I know that its very important to change the drive belt in the right intervals.
The car stands 250 miles away and i don't know in wich condition the drive belt is. I panic that the belt could cracking on the way home.
Is it possible to check the condition of the drive belt in a short time without any tools?
Or is it only possible in a garage?
I hope you all understand my english!

Are you refering to the timing belt or the accessory drive belts? Accessory drive belts are fairly easy to change, I would just bring some new ones along. If you are talking about the timing belt, and I don't know if the CTS uses a belt or a chain, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. Timing chains prety much last the life of the engine in my experience, a timing belt on the other hand does not. BUT, I have replaced timing belts with 100,000+ miles on them and they still look fairly new when compared to a new replacement belt.
Yes, i was talking about the timing belt.
In the meantime, I have bought an other 3.2 CTS with 54.680 Miles, in perfect condition.
The Car runs great, i don't drive it during the winter, so i think i will replace the timing belt next spring.
