Cadillac CTS -> Drive Belt
Hi,
I'm from Germany and i want to buy a preowned 2004 Cadillac CTS with the 3.2 V6 218hp engine. The car has around 100.000 Miles on it. I know that its very important to change the drive belt in the right intervals. The car stands 250 miles away and i don't know in wich condition the drive belt is. I panic that the belt could cracking on the way home. Is it possible to check the condition of the drive belt in a short time without any tools? Or is it only possible in a garage? I hope you all understand my english! :D |

Can anyone help me? |
just buy a new belt and put it on...belts are good for about 60,000 miles

Are you refering to the timing belt or the accessory drive belts? Accessory drive belts are fairly easy to change, I would just bring some new ones along. If you are talking about the timing belt, and I don't know if the CTS uses a belt or a chain, then I wouldn't worry about it too much. Timing chains prety much last the life of the engine in my experience, a timing belt on the other hand does not. BUT, I have replaced timing belts with 100,000+ miles on them and they still look fairly new when compared to a new replacement belt.

Yes, i was talking about the timing belt. :rolleyes:
In the meantime, I have bought an other 3.2 CTS with 54.680 Miles, in perfect condition. The Car runs great, i don't drive it during the winter, so i think i will replace the timing belt next spring. |
