my egr valve is stuck closed. I didnt think id need to fix it but a freind told me that it being stuck closed is the reason my oil gets dirty really quick. Is this true becuase my oil does seem extra dirty at 3k-5k miles. Is my oil loosing some ofits lubricating andcooling functions?

You need to fix your EGR It will help with engine performance. It is unlikely to effect oil getting dirty rate. Engine operating temp, load, and how much dirty stuff is engine.(previous owners maintainance or lack of schedule.

i always thought that youd get more power from not having an egr valve because its just reserculating exhaust air into your intake. and the colder the air the more power right? isnt it just to make the air cleaner for emmisions?

Older cars in the 70's sometimes ran better because the carb was lean and the EGR made the mixture even leaner. New cars with fuel injection benefit from EGR to control pinging and the computer depends on EGR to provide proper fuel delivery. A non functioning EGR has NOTHING to do with dirty oil?? it can cause pinging and lower fuel economy.

PLUS ...

it will hinder EMISSIONS and could cost you a SMOG TEST FAILURE!

Advice is to fix or replace ASAP.
