Default 99 eldorado making whining noise

My 99 eldorado is making a whining noise from the engine when the engine is cold. What could this be? Once the engine warms up it seems to stop...

sorry, I was trying to post fast while I was on my break at work... I know it is not my power steering, I've checked all my fluids and they are all good. The car has 181,000 miles on it, and it isn't giving me any codes, at least not yet. It just started making this noise about two weeks ago. Yes, I'm in Az... I think the noise is comming from the front part of the engine, and it seems to get louder when I step on the gas. Could this be a belt maybe? It makes the noise even whenthe heat/AC off so Idon't think it has anything to do withthe heat/AC. There is also a knocking sound in the engine I can hear it over towards the back of the engine on the passenger side and I think that is something to do with the lifters, but I don't think the two sounds are related. I hope this helps... Now can you help me better? Please? and Thanx.

whining noise
that tells me that is probably related to a moving part as compared to a air/vacuum sound.
It could simply be a glazed belt or pulley but ...
At 180,000 miles, I suggest that the belt is removed and the pulleys are checked for looseness, alignment, oily surfaces, etc..
Unless the belt looks new, replace it. the Phoenix summer is just around the corner;
also, a little bit of belt dressing probably wouldnt hurt.

coolant
check your hoses and if you havent done it, CHANGE YOUR COOLANT with a 50/50 mix, yesterday.
read our FAQ on coolant, headgaskets, overheating, etc ...

knocking sound ..
lifters make a tapping sound, cranks make knocking sounds ..
what is your OIL PRESSURE?
when was the oil changed and what type oil was used?

ok, I think I may have figured out my problem... I just figured out that I have an oil leak, it's not leaving drips under the car but it is spraying up onto the windshield (and the rest of the car) when I'm driving. Which tells me it is leaking somewhere that is pressure related. So tell me if this theroy makes sense... If the oil is spraying under the hood then it is probably getting onto the belt causing it to slip and make the whining noise. Also if the oil pressure is not sufficient then it could also be causing the knocking noisein the lifters... Does my theory make sense or could I be totally wrong?Could itall berelated to the oil leak?

Is your car a Touring Coupe or do you know if it has external oil cooler? If it has oil cooler you could have leaking cooler hose(s). They are routed near belt. You are sure its motor oil not P/S fluid? If oil cooler hose are leaking this severe; it is best not to drive it until corrected have it towed if you have to. Dripping or spraying oil cooler hoses can totally fail at anytime. Engine will pump out all its oil in seconds.

wow.... you have oil spraying??? gee, all that you said could be true. where is the spraying coming from? can you find that out? yea, i think you need to have'r looked at, unless you are able to do some gasket work, or as slowroll mentioned oil pump. keep us in the loop.

My car is the ETC. I have had my dad and my ex-husband look at it to see if they could tell where the leak is comming from and neither of them could tell where it is... I just had the oil changed about a month ago and it is already a quart low. Unfortunately I do not know how to work on this car so I will definately get it into a shop asap. If there is anyone locally that could work on it andhelp me save a few bucks, that would be totally cool.

Thank you to everyonefor all your help.
