Break Assist Warning
I have a 16’ XTS with around 36,000 miles and have I have been to the dealership 4-5 times because of the Break Assist warning that keeps popping up. They tell me it’s fixed and give me the car back then a day or two later it pops up again. I didn’t see or hear about any recalls on this issue. Perhaps someone else has experienced this and if so, how was it fixed?
It's possible that you have an ABS sensor ring that has a slight crack in it. It may not be enough to throw a constant code, but may be enough to "flicker". Ask them if the code comes from a specific wheel. Problem is, they would have to pull the hub bearing to know for sure.
The sensor ring sits on the outer face of the hub bearing. It's a very poor design because after a few years, the corrosion gets behind it and starts to de-laminate and will crack it and in my case, break it right off. Mine even took out my sensor. That threw a constant code and also produced a "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" code. Once I changed both the hub bearing and sensor, all was well. Hope that helps.
