I recently noticed my 2000 STS was leaking Pwr Steering fluid so I took it into a mechanic to get a diagnosis. I was told a hose that connects to the power steering was leaking. Unfortunately, I was also told that my rack and pinion is leaking. The mechanic recommendedI replace the rack and pinion in addition to repairing the leak because he felt the rack and pinion leak would get much worse if he only repaired the hose. I was given an estimate of $880 to replace the rack and pinion and fix the leak. I'm not familiar enough with this to know if this is a reasonable estimate. Any comments or advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

 

Need a parts and labor breakdown to advise. The rack price can be verified on the internet. The labor time can be verified also. dont know what your area hour labor charge is?
