My check engine light is on (89 brougham). How do I get the codes??Possibly without having to go to the mechanic. Thanks

Thanks, but I tried that prior to my post- and it does not work. I can not seem to get the codes. I believe I read somewhere else it can not be done through the climate control on a 89 fleetwood brougham.

 

It can't be done through the climate head on the Brougham. You have to jump the last two terminals (toward the passenger side) on upper row of the ALDL. You can use a paper clip.

When you jump the terminals, turn the ignition to the run position, but DO NOT start the engine. The check engine light will begin to flash a two digit code. The first code will be 12 and will be presented as 1flash/pause/2flashes. Each code will flash 3 times.
