Default 94 Eldo ignition switch

I have to replace the ignition switch (not the key cyl) and i know I have to drop the column to do that. Are there land mines in dropping the column down for access and are there any secrets to replacing the switch once I do. I have the new switch and it comes with two harnesses that look problematic on their own, I hope I don't have to take the dash out to do this. Also the new switch itself has a green plastic pin through the middle which I presume is a location lock of some sort so that the switch is in a correct position when installed (what ever that is?). Any help with tricks or land mines would be appreciated. I am a pretty savy wrench but I never did one of these and it looks forbidding, not to mention the column drop looks like a task.
