hello i have a 97 cadillac deville and it is getting harder to start in the cold mornings. it starts fine on warm days though. is there something that acts like a "choke" on the engine that is not functioning properly? if so what is it called? thanks

 

I have the same year DeVille and I am having the same problem. I am curious to see what the fix is to this.

 

Every car if different, and geographic area can play in to it...so a little more info maybe required. SES light on is important along with known codes.

 

do you use regular or premium fuel? how long has it been since the car had a tune up? (spark plugs, properly gapped)

how do you drive the car, do you baby it? do you ever open it up on the highway, or do a swift 0-60? when was the last time the fuel filter was changed? have you ever cleaned the throttle plate?

for a '97 I would replace the plastic intake manifold, it may have a buildup of gunk.it mightbe a good idea for a car of that year.

 

I noticed that my car sounds loud in the mornings. Not quite a knock, but noticebly louder. I was thinking of switching to a synthetic oil. What do you guys think?

 

Some cars recommend a thinner oil in cold weather, is that the case with the Northstar?

 

5w30 should ok year round in most areas of the US. Noise could be carbon build up on pistons, and a decarbon is needed.
