Code 39 + engine jerking on concours 94
Hi all, I'm new to these forums, it seems like a nice and friendly place
I own a deville concours 1994 with nearly 300 000 miles on it!
Here is my problem, the engine is hesitating as soon as I push the acceleration pedal too much. It also burp when in iddle like if it missed a cylinder or two sometimes. The problem is more apparent when the engine is cold.
I went to the garage with it and they checked those things: coil, fire, plug and all seem to be fine. So I went to Canadian Tire to read the code and it spit only a 39 Torque converter clutch. Could this be what's causing the jerkingfrom the enginewhenpushing on the accelerator?
Thanks in advance,
Phil.

You will find a lot of odd codes in History sometimes, mine likes to show 1527 every so often which is Gear Selector Corelation Switch. This happens almost every time Jr. takes a spin so all it means is he is shifting the car manually and the electronic sensor can match up the gears to the shift indicator properly so I don't think your code 39 is related especially because the engine has the symptom at idle in park.
I suggest getting new wires if all of the other items checked out. I use Canadian Tire for a lot of parts on my hobby car and GMC but not the Cadillac. Price out the real AC Delco wires and see if you can afford them, they are about $240 CAN for a Northstar. If not get the best quality ones you can. Also have a check of the two most overlooked items, the fuel and air filters.

Thanks for the tips Katzman. It's good to see that anotherCadillac can survive the deadly Canadian winters! I had my throtle body cleaned and my air filter replaced. The engine is showing less jerking but it's still doing it though. I bought Bosh spark plugs (35$ total) (they had a 20% discount at Canadian Tire). For the wire, my father in law knows a company where they can custom make them for a really low price and they are of very good quality. He usually go through them for his english cars (MG, triumph, Jag). I think it will cost me about80$ for the wire.
I'll keep you update, I still have to put in the new park plugs and the wire. I hope that it will make the jerking completly disapear!
BTW, your car is a real gem, from what I can see in the picture. Mine is a little rusty, but I will take care of it this summer.
Thanks,
Phil
