2000 Catera Tranny Sensor
Sorry, I don't remember the exact code but I will get it tonight. In the mean time, my son pulled up to a stop sign and it was as though someone shut the car off. Now it won't start. I believe a local auto shop told me the code meant a tranny sensor was detecting it was stuck in 4th gear therefore shut the car down. I will post the exact code tonight.
There are NO trans related codes that would kill the engine, and keep it from re-starting. The only possible thing is if the lock-up clutch in the torque converter is "stuck on", for whatever reason, it would kill the engine when you pulled up to a stop, but it would NOT keep it from re-starting.
We'll have more to go on when you post the code(s) later.

1870 is a "Trans component slipping" code. It simply means the PCM has detected a slippage, or a mis-match of RPM to vehicle speed. 1870 is usually caused by a slipping, or otherwise malfunctioning lock-up clutch in the torque converter, but there could be other issues as well. This code will definitely NOT shut the engine down, or keep it from starting. Sounds like the are other Gremlins at work as far as the engine problem...
Well, originally I thought maybe he ran it out of gas. I have since put at least 5 gallons in the tank. Still it doesn't start. If in fact he did run it empty could there be something I need to reset or bleed??
