Default transmission

Hi guys! I have a 1998 Cadillac STS and only when it is cold outside ( 20 degrees F) and below my car will not let me move the shifter into any gear. It usually takes about 3 minutes or more until I can move the car. It gets pretty annoying!! It did it last winter as well and I had them change the fluid and filter. I checked the fluid and its right where it needs to be. Car has 101,000 miles and runs great no problems shifting gears or anything. Just won't let me take it out of park when its cold for awhile! Thanks for any help!

Could be foreign material, coffee, soda, etc in the console that causes the release solenoid to bind cold. Under hood is the cable to the trans. Could be getting moisture inside and freezing. Pour hot water on the cable to confirm. Move to a warmer climate!!

Thanks for the reply carnut, I think I will try to clean the console out good. I know for a fact that I have had pop spill and that could be causing some of the problem. After this past week of snow, I wish it were that easy to move! Florida sounds nice!! Thanks -Brock-
