MARTHAS VINEYARD - Anxious moments at the Katama Air Park in Edgartown when a sightseeing biplane nosedives after landing. The pilot landed and was apparently turning to go to the hangar when a gust of wind may have blown him over. No on was hurt. The F.A.A. is investigating the incident.

That old Waco UPF is still flying sightseer's today. Now, I believe based at the Marsten's Mills strip on CapeCod which is headquarters for several Banner Towing outfits during "beach season."
They use to have a "banner season" over "Fenway Park" until "911."
I believe this Waco is still set up for towing banners.

I thought WACO = crazy, so i did a search. Found out what UPF means but still dont know what waco stands for.

Of course, it escapes me how they came up with UPF even after seeing this: Any clues?

Used to know all the designations for all classic and antique aircraft. Will do a little more research. Most all the UPF's flying today are ex military. There were not as many made as Stearmans but they are still a more desirable bi-plane as they are three place. The Front cockpit is much wider and is fitted with a dual seatbelt and seat. Darn few were ever converted as "dusters."
