Gov + Ins Co raises cost of driving to $6 per mile
My insurance company did an audit this week on car mileage on my fleet.
It gave me an opportunity to see what it was costing me to keep my cars running.
All my cars avg is under $500 / year in maint but the cost of gov fees (DMV, parking), gov tests (SMOG), insurance (perfect driving record) .. bring the avg to a whopping $6.50 per MILE !
Yesterday, I walked into the local AAA/DMV office and changed several of my cars to Inoperable, a one time $18 fee - no SMOG,no tag fees. When I got home, I logged onto my insurance company acc and canceled the insurance on those cars. They are garaged so unless the buidling burns or falls on them, I have no worries on loses.
The overall savings will fund this summer's vacations.
From this point on, I will rotate the cars on a yearly basis or dispose of them. Keeping only two on the road.
It remains much cheaper on insurance rates to spread mileage on two cars. In other words, I insure two cars for less than I can insure one car. huhhh ? you read it correctly.
Many of you do not know that insurance companies charge on the car's mileage, NOT on how many miles YOU drive .. remember that .. it is based on each car, on its own merits and mileage logged each year on that car.
