Default New Caddy, New Forum (To me anyway), New Member...it always comes in 3's!

Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased my first Cadillac ever. A 1998 Deville D'Elegance and I love the car. So far I've replaced the fogged over headlights, damaged center console lid & I installed 18" Black ARE Casino rims & tires. The car looks great.

The car's inaugural voyage will be a cross country trip from Connecticut to San Diego, CA where I will be starting my new job. I'd also like some input from more seasoned Northstar owners as to what typically fails in these cars. My car has 106,000 miles on it and will have a complete safety check before I leave. But, is their anything I should inspect a little more closely in anyone's opinion? This looks like a great forum and I expect to be spending a whole lot of time here learning the ins & outs of all things Cadillac. Thanks for any and all input, it will be most appreciated!

Regards,
J. Hernandez

Firstly, welcome to the site. Sounds like you got a real beauty.

Check out our FAQ section for advise on N*'s. There are things you need to pay particular attention to with regards to preventative maint. If taken care of there is not reason why you can't get in excess of 250k miles.

Any specific question you may have after searching the FAQ post them. If you have a chance post a pic of the car here too.

Good luck.

106k miles is nothing .. coolant changed in the last year?
if not .. DO IT !!!! it needs to be done every other year, regardless of GM's schedule.
THAT is my biggest concern on these engines.

a 24 oz bottle of LUCAS Transmission fluid wont hurt either.

if you havent had the car long enough to know how well she can hold up, you may want to consider
transport .. i just had a car brought in from Texas at $400 .. I cant even buy the fuel for that.

keep us posted.

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions gent's. The mechanic who works on my vehicles happens to be very familiar with North* engines and recommended some of the same things you have including Transmission, Coolant & Oil changes. The car looks to have been well maintained and I'm confident in it's ability to make the cross country drive. Hereis apicture for those of you who asked.

Let me know what you think!

Regards,
~JH
