Water temp light on 71 Eldorado

Water temp light on 71 Eldorado
When I start the car the water temp light is on immediately. If I rev the engine the light goes off. It comes back on when it idles but if I drive the car or rev the engine the light goes back out. My guess is the thermostat. Any other ideas?
