RPM in overdrive

RPM in overdrive
I bought my wife a new 06 CTS last week. I finally got around to driving it this past Saturday. During a cruise down the highway at 70mph I noticed that the car was running around 2500 rpm. Pulling off on an exit ramp I re-entered the highway and counted off the shifts, best I could tell the car never hit 5th (automatic, 2.8 6cyl).
Does anyone else have a CTS that runs this high in rpm at highway cruising speed? My Silverado runs between 1500 & 1800 rpm at highway speeds as did the two BMW X5's we traded away.
Opinions please?
