Potential FNG with questions
I am considering buying my father's 2000 DeVille with aprox 75K. To the best of my knowledge, it is a box stock model with only the standard equipment; ie no heated seats, no GPS, no moonroof etc.
Dad is in his 80's and bought the car from my brother-in law. The only repair I am aware of was a fuel pressure regulator which was replaced at aprox 30K. Essentially, the car has been trouble free. I've been trying to figgure out a fair price and don't Dad to "give it away". KBB lists this car as being valued between $7-8000 depending on condition. It would need a tune-up and fluids change, IE: Trans service, coolant change, brake fluid flush and the usual, as well as being in need of shocks/struts. On the subject of Shocks/Struts, I can only find listings for Monroe and KYB, unfortunately Bilstein and Koni list nothing for the car. Any thoughts on oil types/weights etc? As for the transmission service, any ideas on going with synthetic ATF as opposed to regular GM fluid?
Any and all input, ideas, problem areas, death threats or offers to transfer money for Nigerian Princes would be most appreciated.
Regards,
Will

If you like car and only minor maint is needed, it's likely worth aquiring. oil - 5w30 , trans fluid - lastest dextron, brake fluid - DOT 3, coolant - GM recommends dexcool. Maint tune up due at 100k. Little unusal to need struts already, car was likely built with soft ride. Soft ride means very comfortable ride, a little short in handling. If selling, up to date maint records is a plus.
