Looking at a very nice 98 DeVille rust free from Arkansas. The car has been sitting but I do not know for how long without being started. The person started the car and the lifters/valves(?) were extremely noisey until the oil pressure got up. Also there was a weird noise from the exhaust but that also went away shortly after, Car has 111K. I know oil settles to the pan but is lifter / valve noise on startup normal. Thanks as always!!

if the coolant is bad, walk away.

lifter noise after extended periods of not running is common for a few seconds as the lifter's oil reservoir drains.. test test the engine compression (headgasket leak) before you decide ...
