Heres how to modify the headrest
After not recieving any responce on modifing the headrest I decided to just jump into the project.
Due to my height the bottom of the headrest hits my spine just below the neck curvature. (08 CTS). Not good.
The modification is rather simple.
1) remove the headrest by pushing both release buttons at the bottom of the headrest post.
2) Turn the headres over. The black plastic cover is held in place with four trim fasteners. place a screwdriver onder the edge and pry this plate off. Work around the entire area. The fasteners are engaged to the foam inside the headrest and they will pull out rather easly.
3) With the base removed you will see the leather cover is attached to the plastic base with staples. Use a screwdriver to pry these up.
4) The tabes of the cover can now be rolled up. This now exposes the white plastid frame which gived the front of the headrest it's shape.
5) I used a Dermel tool with a cut off wheel to cut the bottom off. The plastic frame has a foam cover on it . I did not cut thru this foam.
6) I also cut the front edge of the black plastic cover that was removed in step 2.
7) Sand the cut of the black cover.
8) Fold the leather back over and staple
9) Reinstall the black cover Approx 1 hour total time
