e40 code problem
After having engine dying problems I had the following code:
(E040) .................................... Power steering Pressure switch open
(The readout actually says E40)
Replaced the Pressure switch and the code still comes up. Can this be a problem with the pump output pressure? What should I check next?
1993 Sedan Deville
Thanks,
Don

P/S switch will raise idle when p/steering load could causing hard steering or stalling at slow speeds. Low p/s output wont set code or cause stalling. You will likely need someone who knows Cadillacs to look at it.
The local GM dealership wanted me to replace the catalytic convertor after reading the codes. I haven't gone back. I had hoped low pressure might trigger the code. The only other thing I can think of would be faulty wiring.
