Buy a Deville 4.6 or 4.9?
I just mentioned in the introduction section that I'm a newbie, was hurt in an accident and thinking of buying a 94'-98' Deville for its leg room. Years back a neighbor had one and he mentioned to replace his leaking oil pan gasketthe shop needed to remove the engine. Do both the 4.9 and 4.6 have the same problem? I tried to research the archives on here, but only found info on tightening the pan bolts. Which of the 4.9 or 4.6 is a better engine? I'm thinking that of the two only the 4.6 is the Northstar. Thanks for your input!!! Haseveryone here read the "reliability" section of MSN Autos Used Car section? They give info onneeded repairs and how much it costs to fix. If you can't find itdo a search on MSN AUTOS, click NEW/USED CAR INFO, inUSED CARS click cadillac and the model you want to research. It pulls up body styles back into the 80's. Click your year and there's a tool bar that lists things to click on with RELIABILITY being the last. At the bottom of the page that pops up it will show the reliability of all the years of the model you want. I like it because unlike consumer guide it shows what is the problems and the costs to fix! Sorry to run on for so long!!!

you said '94 to '98 .. i like the 4900 for the earlier years and the N* for the later years.
BUT the 4900 can be easier to work on?
OK OK .. i'm hanging on for the beating to come.
