97 Eldorado ETC: Electrical/False Over Heat???
Any help or advice is welcome and appreciated.
I have a 97 Eldorado ETC. I bought the vehicle and it ran for four days without any issues except for the dash lights would randomly shut off while driving. Also when I lock the car manually with power locks it sounds like an electrical short or shock.
In any case four days passed and the car began to over heat. The radiator was cracked, and I had a pressure test done and was told the cross over gaskets/ water pump housing gaskets were cracked and leaking.
I decided to change the radiator, water pump, thermostat, all the hoses, and the four gaskets to the crossover. The cooling system was purged. Also did a tune up and changed the fuel filter, along with a fuel injector cleaning. Once I started the car I drove for four miles and the temperature gauge started climbing. I shut the car off waited about an hour. Checked fluids everything looked fine no leaks and no physical signs of over heating other than the temp gauge. Started the car again drove for 10 miles and this time no temperature rise in the gauge. During the drive my lights on the dash blacked out and came back on twice.
Also when I started the car the shifter went from park, to reverse, and to neutral these all matched what was on the dash (each gear matched the gear reading on the dash). But when I put the car in Drive it went to 3 on the dash and continued all the way through. The car shifts into all gears fine just does not match the reading on the dash. I parked the car and locked it but it still sounds like an electrical short or shock.
Could it be a false temperature reading if it is an electrical module or issue possibly a short or ground of some sort that is not functioning properly?...Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated sorry if it was a long post just wanted to be as detailed as possible if anything is unclear or if anyone has any questions feel free to let me know.
