I have a 91 Seville and I am having problems with the coolant fans not running. When I start the car the drivers side fan does not run at all but when I turn on the A/C both fans kick on but they are not running at full speed some times. When I sit at lights or drive around for awhile the cars temperature goes above 230 sometimes. I checked the relays and wiring and all check out. I was wondering if anyone else new if there is a sensor or if the thermostat could be the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

I hope it aint too late or maybe you figured it out most of the time its a bad coolant sensor had it happened to me i jus took the power wire and ran it off a fuse with a toggle switch thats a quick fix and cheap for the time being hope this helps u and ur welcome...

 

I suspect the problem is the relay for the fan. First get the engine up to operating temperature, then connect 12 volts directly to the fan to see if the fan motor works: I bet it will. '95 Tauruses used an Integrated Relay Control Module (IRCM) located under the engine label and above the radiator, and it was 4 relays integrated into one device. Diagnosing this part can really be tricky. Ideally, you would have to know which wire closes the relay to turn on the fan, and use a multi-meter to see if it has 5 volts from the ECU. The power and ground circuits shouldn't go bad. If the fuel pump is turning on (also controlled by the IRCM) then it's pretty safe to assume the IRCM has power and ground. The amount of time and money that's involved with doing a proper diagnostics on the IRCM is not worth it - the part is almost 15 years old - just get a new one, or a used one from the junk yard. The one I have in my '89 Taurus still works, and if you think you've bought a bad part, you can exchange it for another junkyard part.
