Default '83 Eldorado Seat Belt Problems

I own a 1983 Cadillac Eldorado 4.1L V-8, with 27,500 miles. Both sides of the front seat belt "Retractor" assemblies, which are located in "Head Liner" are not working properly. i.e. the "Retractors" will not pull the seat belt back into the proper position.

I have looked and looked and have been unable to find replacement units at a fair price. I am looking for the Tan or Beige color.

Questions: 1. Can the "Retractors" be fixed or rebuilt? I do not want to tear them out of the headliner only to find I can not fix them. 2. If anyone else has encountered this problem, has anyone else been able to either fix this of find a good & affardable solution?

Yes, I can buy new, but that is too expensive.

Thank you for your input.

I had asked them about rebuilding the rear seat belt retractors in my 1985 Seville.

Good luck!
