1995 deville 4.9 liter engine miss and backfire
I have a 1995 sedan deville with the 4.9 liter engine. When it gets up to temperature it starts to miss. It bucks and hesitates at lower speeds (up to 55 mph) and I hear back firing in the tail pipe. When I give it gas it goes away, but at city speeds it hesitates violently. I changed the tps yesterday and it ran great all day, but the missing was back today. The only current trouble code I have is something about a wheel sensor which tripped when I had my rear brakes done. The spark plugs are relatively new, but I don't know about the wires. Could it be the coil causing this problem?
I had a 1990 Deville that would have a miss in it once in awhile. Most mechanics diagnosed a bad injector bit it was really a bad ground connection. Cleaning all the ground connections from the engine to the ECM finally fixed it.
Also did you calibrate the TPS? First you have to calibrate the ICS to the minnimum then the RPM and then the TPS(volts between 0.45-0.55). A Haynes book for Devilles will tell you how to do it. It's a good book to have if ou plan on keeping the Cadillac running at optimum.
Plus always change the fuel filter once a year. There's no telling what bad gas they are selling out there. Recently 29 gas stations in South Dakota were caught selling 83 octane as 87 octane.
