1986 Eldorao, service soon ???

Default 1986 Eldorao, service soon ???

I just bought this car its in mint condition , but when After about 5 or 6 miles the engine control system light comes on, and I get a service soon refer to manuel message , the car runs fine and starts up with no warning till I drive it for a while, where do I start to get rid of that warning, how can I get the error code, the book say to take the car to the dealer,

For codes / On Board Diagnostics refer to FAQ section then post what you find.

Got the codes , now whats the fix in order of importance ?? 1986 Eldorado runs good . What if I just clear the codes ??

E048) ......................... Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system Problem
E052) .................................................. ..... PCM Memory Reset
E053) ........................................... Distributor Signal Interrupt
B121).........................Twilight enable switch circut
B552) .................................................. .. BCM Memory Reset Indicator

Clear codes, Drive car and see what comes back. Dead battery would cause E52 & B552.

More than likely an EGR problem. The EGR is not enabled until the engine gets to operating temp and reaches a certain road speed. Check wiring to EGR solenoid and vacuum hoses to solenoid and EGR itself. Having the factory service manual will walk you thru the diagnostics. Best tool you can buy.
