Lightbulb 1973 coupe deville trunk issues

i am the new owner of a 1973 deville. i was wondering what that shock and cable on the right side of the trunk are supposed to be doing? mine is disconnected. cable seems to be froze!

where are they?? are they connected/attached to anything?? is everything working properly?? could they be the trunk pull down/closer that has been replaced with a manual close type??

The shock is located on the passenger side. It has a cable attached on both sides. One goes to the trunk lid hinge (which also includes a lever and wheel that pulls on cable). The other goes to the lower trunk latch. I hooked everything up, but the cable to the latch is completely frozen. I sprayed it with "knock'er loose and will try again tomorrow!
