Default 1968 Cadillac Coupe DeVille Project

Hey everyone, I’m a new member here! A few weeks ago I went and bought myself my first project car, a 1968 Cadillac Coupe DeVille and it’s been sitting for 12 years when I bought it. I paid $700 for it and it needs a lot of work but it’s all complete and original (it even has a FM radio converter installed), 90K on the clock. The car ran fine before it was parked and when I was buying it the seller told me he tried to start it up but it was making a clicking noise and then on round 2 of starting it he said it was silent, so he told me that I need to flush the engine 2-3 times and then put in fresh fluids, a new battery and a new starter. First I was told that because it’s been sitting for 12 years I should do the engine flush by letting the engine cleaner sit in the engine for a couple of days and then flush it then do it again, and a few days ago I was told by the tow truck driver who was transporting the Cadillac for me to a new location, and he said he has a ‘71 Impala and when he bought it, it also had been sitting for 12 years and that I should get the engine to start and run first and once I see it can run to flush the engine then. Which way is the right/best way to do this? I also read on another online forum that the ‘68 Cadillacs used the ACDelco 323-364 hi-torque starter, if I can’t find one does anyone have another recommendation for a new starter for the Cadillac?
