I have a 96 sts and the sunroof will not stop in the right position to close and trying to push the switch manually I have filled the back seat floorboards with water. Now it will not open or close by itself just go from closed to vent position and has a grinding gear sound when starting. I have narrowed it down to a switch,motor or control unit. All parts are very spendy can anyone shed light for me?

 

43 looks and no answers is there anyone out there that can help me. I do have a set of books but do not know whether to replace motor control module or switch. or just try to adjust everything. The book leads me to believe it is a control module but the grinding could be the gears I see the motor is hooked to a transmission of sorts but no info on that. Any help appreciated.
