Default left foot accelerator

I've got a 2007 Cadillac STS with an electronic left foot accelerator. Since I had that installed I've had it in the shop five times because it throws a code Global OBD2 alarm is P2138 accelerator pedal position sensor 1 – 2 not plausible. This last time they said they can't fix it and I'm scheduled to have it that accelerator uninstalled. I'm going to switch and get a mechanical left foot accelerator. Interesting this weekend I was driving the car and I parked and adjusted the steering column. When I did it threw the same code. I cleared the code and adjusted the steering column again and it threw the code again. So now I reposition the steering column so that it does not extend. I drove all day no code. Any thoughts?
