RE: 1996 STS (i need help)
The only way to be sure (other than trying) is to compare Parts Nos. For each model year, make and model, there are so called Crash Sheets available. These are, a few pages each, with diagrams and Part Nos for the most common parts, and in general, used by repair/body shops. I believe they are different for the Seville and the DeVille, so you want to get one for each (for a few bucks at eBay).
If you find that the Part No is the same for two model years or models, you can be sure that they are identical; however, if those Nos differ, they still might be interchangeable, because if one has, say, an extra hole, they are not identical and carry different Part Nos.
