Default Question about Soft Top and Boot Issue

Question: What are the paddle-shaped plastic pieces that are associated with the boot/soft top of the Allante? I was watching a demo video of the Allante and the soft top (the ease to raise and lower it), and in the video these 2 plastic pieces (they looked like large mud flaps the color of the boot cover) fell off. The demonstrator picked them up and put them inside the car. No comments. Car looked fine -- top went up and down. Where did these pieces come from?
How would one replace these (attach correctly)? Thanks!

They are called mini-covers.

The 1987-1990 are different than the 1990.5 - 1993.

The 1st types are stored UNDER the softcover, in the well,
The 2nd types are stored behind the seat, in the pocket on the seat's back.

Most owners dont use them unless the top stays down all the time or they want to show off the car. They do dress and cover up the metal hardware nicely.

Many cars dont have them as they got dropped one too many times and are no more, or they didnt get attached properly and fell off on the highway. When raising the top, it is easy to forget they are installed and are dropped and damaged either on the fall or when the top cover releases.

Not cheap to replace.

If one wanted to buy said mini covers, where would one find them? Not on Ebay.

They are no longer available.
if not ebay, then go to where there are Allantes being parted out.

expect to pay dearly as they are in high demand.

ahhh .. there are also the dedicated Allante part houses .. not the lowest prices .. but if you are willing to pay, that may work.

I doubt Johnny will have any. I know he paid around $120 on eBay per set, and he did get a couple of sets last year in ebay.

Allantesource may have some in one some of his 50+ parts cars .. probably a long shot .. those cars are usually relieved fairly quickly off the easy to remove & sell parts.

I still dont know which model year & color you are searching for.

Default soft top

someone has made a less expensive alternative to replace the mini covers. Two small cushions that are made of the top material and slip in to clean-up the "space" when the top is down.
They can be had on "e" bay. I paid $35.00 for a pair.

That is a long move. I envy your access to the Philly steak cheese sandwiches or the Calsones that I fell in love when traveling there. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING like it, around here.

Ahh yes, Corona, the place that I will remember due to all the excitement with girls at the fairways of Hidden Valley back in '02 or was it Norco (North Corona) ... ?

Nice Allante .. I also love that red car .. ohhhh yeah.

The cover-cushions that Zinzin speaks of, fit the Phase-I cars very nicely. I dont know how they fit the Phase II cars. Both your and Zinzin have or had Phase-I cars ( 1987 to 1990).
