76 Eldorado Vacuum Routing from Distributor
23K car; owned 36 years. Mech put a compressor on and noted that several vacuum lines were deteriorated. Not surprising. He showed me a piece of broken off molded line. Since then the car's not running right. Suspect the vacuum system is open, and it is. Doesn't idle right or shift right. Found the line from the distributor advance broken off near the front of the carb. It's missing a piece or more, and I can't figure out where it is supposed to tap into the vacuum system. Have factory manual with diagram, but that's not been helpful. Could anyone with a similar car lift up the air cleaner and trace the line from the distributor and let me know where it goes. Car has the usual equipment but no cruise since it was deliver in Honolulu, where I bought it. All leads appreciated. Call if you prefer 321 213 7804. Thank you.
I don't understand. You have the factory diagram. Find the distributor vacuum advance in the diagram, work backwards to the vacuum source.
Wouldn't surprise me to find that there's a Thermo-Vacuum switch, and/or a delay valve in the vacuum system. In the olden days, the vacuum advance hose led directly to a source of manifold vacuum. Later, ported (timed) vacuum was used. Later still, it routed through temperature-sensitive valving, or was blocked until the transmission was in high gear; all in the interest of emissions control.
