Default '69 Eldorado electrical problem

I'm new to the Forum...have a '69 Eldorado...51K actual miles. My problem is that, when the rigtht turnsignal lever is engaged, the engine dies and all electrical shuts down. I think it is a short in the turnsignal/ignition wiring in the steering column.
Before I dive into that, I thought I would ask if others have seen this phenomena and how to fix it?

Thanks Whit

Not sure what you will find for cause, but it sound like top of column needs to come a part. The turn signal switch needs to be taken loose and lifted a little. Check how ignition cylinder mechanical linkage operates ignition switch is actually at bottom of column. Steering columns are particularly difficult to work on at the same time they are easy to mess up. You need manual, although GM columns did not change much from 1969-85. If in doubt take it to a reputable shop.

Thank you slowroll...I was fearful that taking apart the upper steering column was the likely outcome her. I will go after it and report back in due time.

Thanks again for the input.
