Default Transaxle

Just getting back from my local dealer and am quite confused...I'd scheduled for a fluid flush and fill but when I turned it in to them, the sm stated there was no requirement since I have front wheel drive. Duh, I know this, that is why I am seeking a transaxle fluid change and not a transmission fluid service. He explained, blah blah blah. Now I know there is fluid in the transaxle because there is a cap for checking the fluid level. The car has 68000 miles and I'm sure it could use fresh fluid and filter. Can anyone further clarify? Not happy with service mgr. explanation
