2001 DTS;
How loud can carbon buildup knock be??!

What happend: pulling out of a spot in parking lot, heard very loud knock, thought the car needed oil, put in oil (car didn't call for oil on dash), still same sound. sounds like it's coming from the right bank on top near firewall. any suggestions????? help.

miles on car? knock, or tap? any codes? does the car do it (rap) in park? you'd have to juice the engine a few times to see..... easy now. were you using premium fuel, and go to regular? let the forum know.

Loud knock. always used regular. 97000 miles. No codes, no engine light. Yes, raps in park when gas is given. ????

 

yea.... sounds internal... gee too bad.... need to have it looked at....... its a rod, bearing, something... without hearing, tuff to say.......

This was not there before parking it?
If so, I vote for a belt / pulley issue.

I have even heard of a bird, cat, or snake getting caught in there while parked.

I actually have a picture of a snake caught in the belts.
