Default 2006 dts vapor canister

i was reading some of the very good advice on what would make the check engine light come on ,and one of the suggestion were that sometimes the vapor canister can become saturated with fuel. how does that happen? is it from over filling your gas tank,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, thank you all in advance.

That really doesn't happen so much any more. In the days when we used carburators the cansister as part of the EVAP system. It was attached to fuel tank and carb in 2 or more places. there was a filter at the bottom of it that was serviceable but rarely changed, It would get stopped up. When vacuum from carb thru a valve was applied to canister to pull in vapors (which it couldn't due to clogged filter) it pulled fuel from the tank into the cansister and the the engine.
