I am having to replace my ECM and I was wondering if this is a plug and play application or is there more envolved in this. It is for an 81 Coupe Deville, 6 liter V8/6/4.

apply di-electric grease to the contacts.
make sure the battery is disconnected at both terminals.
can you tell us why this is happening?

RE: Replacing 81 Deville ECM
Well, I took my car to a lowrider shop and the car drove fine on the freeway for the 2 hour drive. Then when I got to the exit and stopped it was fine, then when the light turned green my car was really sluggish. Then at the next light the engine just died out. Tried restarting and got her going again but still real sluggish. Got it to the shop and explained to them what was going on and at first they thought it was the ignition module. Well they checked that and it was fine. Checked the coil and rotor and they were fine. Injector was spraying fuel so that was fine. Checked the fuel system to include the tank, fuel pump, and filter and those were all fine. He then read some of the codes it was throwing (I have no idea how to do this) and I guess there was one on there about the ECM. So we are waiting on a new one to come in either Friday or Monday.
