Parking Brake Issue and DVD Player

Parking Brake Issue and DVD Player
My parking brake (88 DeVille) cannot be depressed to the point where it latches in place. I can depress it, and the red brake light comes on and the car stops, but it will not lock in place. I just installed a DVD player, and the DVD's won't play unless the parking brake is depressed. I can push it down, but no movie. I am wondering if the parking brake is the problem or if the system may have an install error. Your help is appreciated!

RE: Parking Brake Issue and DVD Player
Most aftermarket DVD players use a single wire that grounds when the parking brake is applied.
If you are holding the Ebrake down and it still doesn't play then its an issue with the player or install.
I just ground the Ebrake wire for my friends so they can watch all the time but it can be a safety issue so be cautious.

I just thought about it... The wire would be behind the nav system. The player is in the center console, and the video plays on the nav screen. Do you know how to get behind the nav screen?

I looked on another forum, and found how to remove the nav unit. It took me two tries to find the correct wire. No wires were labeled. I permanently grounded the wire, so now my wife and I can watch movies on the move. I couldn't have done it without your info about the ebrake ground. I forgot to see if the nav system could be operated while in drive. THANKS!
