Intermittent problem with Oil Light and Steering
I have a 1997 Cadillac Deville, 120,000 miles.
This was happening once evey couple of months – but is now increasing in frequency (every 2 weeks, sometimes every week).
As I slow down, the oil light will come on. The power steering ceases to function (i.e. the steering is very hard) and the accelerator doesn’t work. I think the engine is still running.
I have to turn off and restart the car to clear the problem and it is ok after this.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks
Allan

I have a '96 DeVille with a similar problem. It seems to occur after I have driven the car and it is at operating temperature. What happens for instance, I will stop at a store and when I come out and take off, the car dies. No codes or anything, but right before it happens, the oil indicater blinks, and it seems to happen while I'm coasting down a hill.
I believe my problem is a faulty fuel pressure regulator. I have not changed it yet because of no time to do it and it is not consistent, but I believe this is the problem. The part is about $70 and according to the Haynes manual, it appears to be easy to replace.

Hey CG: Have you checked out the power steering pressure switch?? The switch recieves 12 volts from the 10 amp. solenoid fuse located in the relay center. Try to see if it is just dirty or loose connections first. Good luck.......
