Default Is the DHS worth buying?

Hi new forum member out of southern cali. I recently looked into a 2001 cadillac DHS for sale for 3800. When I went to check it out car's looks seem not too bad at all no major dings etc. When I test drove it I test drove the **** out of it. Went from normal cruising speeds to almost flooring the f out of it to see how the car shifts and to arise some hidden problems. car shifted normal and such. but when I shifted the car into park there was a loud thud going from drive to reverse and park. The car was already indicating low coolant level. So right after driving it I opened the hood and cars engine was already getting a little smoke. I also checked the cars oil level and it was damn near empty. The man bought this car as a lot sale so he has no interest in it and Im pretty positive that for 2k I can get it. my biggest concern might be having to get a new tranny. what are your guy's thoughts on this? should I just walk away?

I would buy it for $2000, even if you do have to get the trans serviced, its worth it, depending on resale value, or your personal taste
