Best rebuilt engines???
I love my 95 Deville
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...0/CIMG0053.jpg
so much that after a new muffler, tires, calipers, oil, plugs etc I am going ahead and rebuilding engine and trans, not yet she still runs like a beauty.
She is not getting any younger though 116000 miles, and I might have that carbon rap
but can anyone suggest the best places to find my rebuilt engine and trans. I am in Chicago but I am sure that people will deliver.
Anyone with a good story let me know
Thanks

Jasper has reman engine, however at 116k she still a baby with proper maint she should go 200k+. I suggest to decarbon engine first. W.O.T DOES NOT!!! apply to 4.1, 4.5,or 4.9 engines.
I agree, at 116,000 miles, you wont even find wear in that engine unless the oil has not been changed in 100,000 miles or has been run without air filters through a sand storm. Personally, I wouldnt even change the plugs.
If carbon is there, take care of that. Some engines are prone to carbon.
Here are some of my general automotive guidelines for carbon build up, any engines, better known as "Spark Knock", "Detonation", "Pinging" but also include "erratic idle." I dont have the manual for your engine, slowroll may be more helpful in this area. Carbon build up in the throttle intake is particularly troublesome for idle in our engines.
DPFE failure
Coil problems
Throttle intake carbon
PCM communications
Dirty MAF
EGR failure
Timing error (static or advance)
Improper fuel grade
-Check your owners manual and be sure you are using the proper Octane Rating. - Correct next fill up.
-Check your MAF wires for oil build up (even if you do not have an oiled gauze filter), clean using electrical contact cleaner and a SOFT TOUCH!
-Check timing - Correct as needed.
-De carbon your engine.
-Check EGR sensor. - If it is metal, crusty, powdery or old looking, replace it with the newer PLASTIC versions.
-Check your Coils
Lastly, check your compression in all cylinders. - If it is out of spec, oil is either getting in to the fuel mixture causing MAJOR carbon build up or the valves are not seating correctly. THAT is when it is time for a rebuild.

All advice is greatly appreciated
How does one go aboutgetting rid of carbon ina 4.9 engine
I will definitely try all your tips because I would like to get the max life out of the engine I have.

Not the only method, maybe not even the best, but that is what I use.
Some even use water to deccarbon the intake system .. not that I recommend that.
I myself use GM Top Engine Cleaner in the liquid form. Just follow instructions on the can. Make sure you wear EYE PROTECTION sometimes engine will blow cleaner out as engine stalls, it tends to burn if it gets in your eye(s). For best results let cleaner soak in overnight. Also exhaust will smoke alot so pick area away from everyone you don't want to PI$$ off to do it.
