Default 97 deville trunk latch

Hi, anyone have a trunk latch that opens with the key, and clicks with the remote but doesn't open...same with dash button also. Trunk closes properly after opening with the key. Is the pawl broken ? I can't tell if it is because I didn't see what it looked like before the problem. Thanks Gary

Yes no matter what setting, the plunger moves in and out..but won't engage the latch in the lid to release from the tang at bottom

looks like the tab ...shaped like a partial "C" isn't mating with the edge of the plunger edge, just not sure what it was suppose to look like in the first place...service manual i've had since i bought the car (gm) isn't specific enough

Thanks for your time. Just curious what the outcome of your trunk latch dilemma was. If you have a moment to update me...I have the same problem. Thanks.

Yes, I had to take the whole assembly down, and found that the tang was snapped off and fell under the trunk pad. The assembly just was too expensive for replacement when all I had to do was make a new tang out of a piece of aluminum and screw it right on top of the old one with two sheet metal screws to keep it from shifting side to side, and wha la, been working since. The piece that I made to fit was very small...has to be to not interfere with the movement. Peace.

Thanks for keeping this post alive. I have been without an operative trunk for months. Same problem as rabbit. Could probably fix it the same way...but now not even my key will unlock it...how on earth do I open the trunk lid with it in the closed position when key, nor fob, will work?

Mmm...well probably will have to remove the back seat and use a large screwdriver to pop the latch....only thing aside from having a locksmith open it for you.
