Default 2011 cts shifter problems

Hi, I'm having problems with my car. I started the car, put it in reverse, then when I tried to put it in drive (tip-tronic), it seemed to go from neutral straight to tip-tronic. Now it's stuck in the tip-tronic mode but the dash says it's in neutral. It won't go back to the left side, I can't select D, or put it back in Park. I had the car towed to the dealer, they were able to temporarily remove the top shifter assembly, put it in D and drive it in the garage. They told me the shifter linkage assembly needs to be replaced. Total cost in CAD is $570. My question, has anybody encountered this before? I see some shifter linkage assembly repair kits available online, is this what I need instead of replacing the entire unit? Are there instructions on how to do it?

Thank you for any information.
