I found a decked out 03' STS with all the options, the only problem is that the Transmission leaks. The owner said it was a common problem with this car, and that it is just a worn out bearing where the tranny hooks up...He also said that GM is aware of the problem and that they have "upgraded" the part so that if youhave it replaced it won't happen again...It also says check stability control and service suspension on the dash. Are these problems major or is he telling the truth about the tranny's leaking in these cars. It's the nicest STS I've seen and he's only asking $8900Cdn. Should I walk away or bite the bullet and have it fixed? It has 130,000 kms and looks to be in mint cond.

 

RUN! Unless you can fix yourself or have a low cost labor hook up; buying cars with known major component troubles is very risky.

 

I have called around to Cadillac Dealers and they say they don't know anything about the bearing the owner is talking about...The dealers think it is either a coolant line or a gasket that is leaking. I have talked the owner down to $8000 Cdn which is very cheap for this car. I just don't know if I should buy it because the problem may be bigger than I think, or it could be as simple as a leaking line. I have no time to try and sneak it into a shop, but I'm guessing it needs about $1500Cdn worth of work. This car has all the options available and I think if I could fix the tranny leak it would be a great buy. I just don't know a whole lot about these cars and need advice from someone who is more familiar with Cadillacs...
