Default 2005 Escalade not shifting over 40 mph

I was driving my Escalade today and suddenly it would not shift or go beyond 40 mph. Any suggestions as to what could be the problem? I stopped and had it towed to my mechanic. Thanks

Most likely an electrical issue, but it needs to be scanned for codes first. Could be a solenoid, wiring, or connector issue. Could also be a speed sensor...many possibilities. Codes will point you in the right direction.
